The 2026 Luau is in the books!
The Luau was always meant to be a big event. A pleasant setting in the Village Green Park (which Kiwanis made happen back in the day, just incase you didn't know), a great Hawaiian meal and entertainment too. This year's chosen charity is an additional swing set for the new Sisters Elementary School.
Last year didn't go to plan. The Flat Fire was breathing down our neck, bringing air quality numbers that were not so great. The entertainment had to cancel, the team quickly pivoted to a take-out style dinner. The patrons learned that the food was great, thanks to Shannon Rackowski. But without the community style dinner and entertainment, we weren't able to give the people what we promised. 2026 was our year to do it up right. With this year's clear skies, the team delivered! About 200 people enjoyed the same tasty food but this time were entertained by hula and ukulele performances.
There are many thanks to go around here. First and foremost, Shannon Rackowski. She is an absolute force of nature in Sisters. Now Rackowski may not sound very Hawaiian, but trust us she is! That's Shannon pictured below. Her day started a 4am preparing that wonderful food. As if she wasn't doing enough, her hula group performed. They even suckered in the firefighters from across the street to participate in an impromptu hula session. The guys performed admirably considering the lack of notice or training. Next, Peggy Tehan and her Ukulele group. They were very enjoyable too, and really added to the Hawaiian vibe. Last but not least, the Kiwanis Club turned out in force to host the event. Thanks to our generous attendees, we raised thousands for the new swings!
