Kiwanis President David Hiller and Deputy Mike Hudson
Ok, that was a little click bait, sorry.
The Kiwanis Club of Sisters has guest speakers at our twice monthly meetings. This last Wednesday saw another great guest speaker, Deputy Mike Hudson from Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. Mike is likely the only Certified Fraud Examiner in Central Oregon law enforcement. His background includes 10 years in the banking industry before transitioning to police work.
Fraud in the United States alone is a multi-billion dollar "industry". Examples include telemarketing, investment scams, credit cards, contractor scams, romance scams just to start. And maybe the most evil of all, elder scams. Elder scams can be from strangers or family members.
Deputy Hudson's overriding message was this- If it seems to good to be true, it probably is! Also, if you have concerns, call the Sheriff's office. They are there to help.
Remember, Kiwanis meetings are open to the public. If you see an upcoming speaker you are interested in, come join us!
